Individuals should be encouraged to maintain their social networks and actively take steps to unwind from work or study in their personal time. Engaging in activities that instill a sense of achievement, promote bonding and provide enjoyment are recommended. They should be compassionate to themselves and more so during periods of significant change and personal difficulty. Good sleep, a healthy diet, physical activity, abstinence from excess alcohol and illicit substances is critical. There are various online self-help–based therapies that can be helpful. These include mindfulness and meditation-based exercises.
